JAPANTHER
"Eat Like Lisa Act Like Bart"
Overview:
Japanther is composed of two art-punk human beings hailing from Brooklyn New York, and their east coast low-fi-ness spews out of speakers in their latest 13-track LP. Perfect for a college art school party among rooftops, perfect for experimental rapscallions jamming out at subway stops, and definitely perfect enough to bring a smile to the deceased Ramones’ faces. The songs are short and super melodic. The guitars are fuzzed out and the drums left as basic as possible. Just because you’re a visual art-infused band, there’s no need to over complicate the music as will make it appear to be “above” people. This is about as back-to-basics as it gets as the music feels down-to-earth and reminiscent of “that band” you stumbled upon in some minimal-capacity club and made your night. Tracks like “More Teachers, Less Cops” and “Green Spray Paint” will definitely trigger your head to bob and the backing high-end keys balance the songs with the drums and guitars. Even though the Japanther duo has been in the music game for a better part of a decade, the music still comes back full of youth and vitality. Remember kids: it’s summertime - so you better be playing this as you’re driving around while bathing in sweet, sweet sunshine. Smiley face.
Smells like:
Fresh air on the first day of summer
Tastes like:
Lick-a-stick electrified!!
Feels like:
The bumps on the road and sidewalk when riding a Big Wheel
Looks like:
‘Paperboy’ for original Nintendo
